What does AGM mean in a car battery?
AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat: the electrolyte is held in fine fiberglass separators instead of free-flowing liquid. This gives lower internal resistance, higher charge acceptance and spill-proof construction, which is the key technology behind start-stop vehicles with high electrical loads.
Which vehicles is the AGM DIN range designed for?
The DIN range covers L1 to L6 sizes from 50 to 105 Ah, matching European passenger cars and light commercial vehicles equipped with start-stop, regenerative braking and multiple electronic consumers.
Can an AGM battery be installed in any position?
Yes. Because the electrolyte is fully absorbed in the glass mats, AGM batteries can be mounted in almost any position except upside down, with no risk of acid leakage.
How should an AGM battery be charged?
Use an AGM-compatible smart charger with a maximum charging voltage of 14.4 to 14.8 V at 25°C. Avoid equalization or high-voltage modes designed for flooded batteries, which can dry out the mats.

What is a BCI group size?
BCI (Battery Council International) group numbers, such as Group 47, 48 and 49, define case dimensions, terminal type and hold-down so the battery can be matched to the vehicle tray. The AGM BCI range covers these popular European start-stop groups.
Why do AGM batteries deliver higher CCA?
The absorbed electrolyte and tight plate packing reduce internal resistance, allowing the AGM 47, 48 and 49 models to deliver 660 to 900 A of cold cranking current for reliable starts in cold climates and on high-compression engines.
Can I replace an EFB or conventional battery with an AGM battery?
Yes, provided the group size, polarity and dimensions match. AGM is a direct upgrade for start-stop systems and offers greater cycle life than EFB and conventional flooded batteries. Confirm that the vehicle charging voltage is AGM-compatible.
Do AGM batteries require maintenance?
No. AGM batteries are fully sealed and maintenance-free: no water top-up is needed. Keep the terminals clean and check the state of charge periodically for the longest service life.
